History & inspiration

Born in Grenoble, Lionel Terray is regarded as one of the greatest mountaineers in history.

This Tibetan-inspired room pays tribute to his legendary Himalayan expeditions, notably the first ascent of Makalu (8,485 m) in 1955.

The spirit of Tibet fills this room, carrying you along the paths of Lhasa. For a moment, you feel transported to a monastery on the roof of the world. Wood panelling, mandalas and colourful textiles create a calming, contemplative atmosphere. Enhanced by a Wheel of Life motif, the bathroom extends this sense of escape. You are at Château de Bissieux — and elsewhere at the same time.
