History & inspiration
Born in 1790 in Figeac, Jean-François Champollion was a French Egyptologist. He deciphered the meaning of Egyptian hieroglyphs, paving the way for modern Egyptology. He remained closely connected to the region and to the city of Grenoble, where he taught for many years.
This room immerses guests in Champollion’s world and in his pursuit of the secrets of the Pharaohs. Every detail evokes the Nile, the Pharaohs and the pyramids.
Engraved stones and hieroglyphs on the walls reveal a universe of poetry and wisdom. Carefully selected furnishings, sculpted columns and a regal bathroom give this room its truly distinctive character.
