History

The grounds of the Château de Bissieux are home to century-old trees that could tell its history and legends better than anyone else.

They would doubtless tell you about the times when a stay at the Château was a must for the huntsmen of the region. They might even speak of the children and the families that lived here until recent times and the fine receptions that were held here.

Since the 18th century in part and the 19th century as regards another part, it has been the living memory of this region, between towns and forests.

Today, its front provides one of the finest examples of Opus Spicatum (herringbone stonework) in this area.

The rows of bricks and stones taken locally are set in sand and lime and repeated infinitely, drawing inspiration from the geology of the Dombes.

At the end of its drive lined by horse chestnut trees, the Château de Bissieux stands rooted in local history and lives in the present.
